About This Trail

Cathedral Rock is perhaps the most recognizable landmark in Sedona, and the trail to its saddle is one of the most rewarding short hikes in Arizona. Don't let the distance fool you — this 0.75-mile climb packs 740 feet of elevation gain into steep slickrock scrambles that will have you using your hands frequently. The payoff is a front-row seat in the saddle between the cathedral's spires, with sweeping views of Sedona's red rock landscape, Oak Creek, and the distant Mingus Mountains. It's challenging enough to feel like an accomplishment and short enough to fit into any Sedona visit.

Highlights

  • Sedona's most iconic rock formation up close
  • Fun slickrock scrambling on red sandstone
  • Panoramic views from the saddle between spires
  • Beautiful at sunset — a photographer's dream

Best Season

Year-round. Sunset hikes are extremely popular — arrive early for parking. The rock can be slippery when wet.
